Mununjali featherweight 'Deadly' Dana Coolwell's buckets of heart earned fans on one of the boxing's biggest cards of the year at Paul v Tyson in Texas.
On Saturday morning Australian time, Coolwell was handed just the third loss of his career to Bruce Carrington on the undercard at AT&T Stadium.
The 25-year-old, going the distance under heavy fire, couldn't overcome his highly-touted opponent in the bout scored 80-70 across by unanimous decision.
The bout didn't appear on Netflix's marquee fight night - featuring the 58-year-old Tyson's return to the ring against the YouTuber-turned-boxer, rumoured to earn the pair upwards of $60 million between them, but did stream on the Most Valuable Promotions YouTube channel.
Coolwell, from Beerwah on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, had already garnered the respect of fans and pundits taking the fight on short notice.
He last fought at Caloundra RSL Club - a far cry from the 80,000-seat home of the Dallas Cowboys he entered this morning, compared to Carrington's recent bouts at facilities in New York's Madison Square Gardens.
"It's truly a privilege to represent my people on this iconic boxing show. Lesssgo!!," he wrote to social media earlier this week, followed by "LFG!!!" on Saturday morning.
His 13-2 record compared well to Carringoton's, a burgeoning star in the featherweight division, 13-0 professional CV, but refused to quit through an onslaught in the contest.
The fight progressed into a one-sided affair in Carrington's favour as the rounds went on.
Coolwell was dropped in rounds four and eight.
"Coolwell has a big heart, he's stuck in here, he's giving us all he's got, and he's still fighting" former world champion and boxing icon Roy Jones Jr. said on commentary in the final round.
"Coolwell's gonna learn a lot from this fight...and it's gonna make him a much better fighter than he is already".
Rosie Perez said: "There's no quit in Coolwell. This is the type of boxer that fans like to see. I'm sure people are going to want to see him again."
After his second fall to the canvas, Coolwell denied the 27-year-old American his ninth knockout win, with respect from the commentary team.
"He doesn't need to hang his head...he fought a top 10 guy on a few weeks notice," Jones said.
