Talented Adelaide forward Shane McAdam has landed at Melbourne after the two clubs agreed to a trade on the second-last day of the AFL's Trade Period.

McAdam signalled his intentions to move to the Demons last month and the Crows were able to facilitate a trade Tuesday morning.

Adelaide will receive Melbourne's future second-round selection in exchange for McAdam's services.

The 28-year-old played just the seven games in 2023 but will be hoping to play a big role in a Demons forward-line desperate for more goal-kicking options.

Melbourne list manager Tim Lamb is excited about what McAdam will bring to the team's offence next year.

"We are thrilled to secure the services of such a talented player in Shane," Lamb said.

"We know the sort of exciting, fast-paced football Shane can produce, and his skillset is one that will complement our existing group.

"We feel his best football is still ahead of him, and we look forward to seeing what he can bring to the red and blue."

The Crows wanted to keep the Kija and Jaru man and reportedly tabled a contract offer, but McAdam wished to pursue other opportunities interstate.

Adelaide's list manager Justin Reid thanked McAdam for his time at the club and wished him well for his future endeavours.

"Shane has been a valuable and popular member of our team in his time at the Club and we wish him well for the future," Crows list management and strategy manager Justin Reid said.

"Securing a future second round selection for him further strengthens our draft hand moving forward."

McAdam is from Halls Creek in the East Kimberley region in northern-Western Australia.

He was originally traded to Adelaide from Carlton as a mature-aged pre-draft access selection that the Blues had received as part of the Mitch McGovern deal.

Before being drafted, McAdam had previously played for WAFL club Claremont and in the SANFL for Sturt.

He has played 50 games and kicked 72 goals across his five seasons at the Crows.

The medium-sized forward kicked an equal career-high four goals against the Brisbane Lions in Round 22 this year.

Despite ultimately being overlooked in the 2015 AFL Draft, McAdam equalled Nic Naitanui's running vertical jump record at this year's Draft Combine.

His athleticism and high-marking are his best attributes as a footballer and he has earned multiple 'Mark of the Week' nominations.
