Pathfinders, a leading not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting disadvantaged communities, recently opened its first Darwin office at 2D/17 University Drive, Palmerston.
Pathfinders held a Community Open Day to celebrate the opening of the office, which will continue the organisation's over 40-year tradition of delivering advocacy and services across regional and remote Australia.
The group works in services including foster care, youth accommodation, family support, and disability services.
Pathfinders said new Darwin office marks "a significant expansion, strengthening Pathfinders' commitment to empowering Northern Territory communities with trauma-informed, culturally responsive support".
Chief executive Alan Brennan said opening the first Pathfinders' office in Darwin is "a pivotal step" in the group's "mission to empower communities".
"We are excited to collaborate with local stakeholders to deliver meaningful, sustainable support that strengthens futures," he said.
On Wednesday, Pathfinders' hosted a National Aboriginal Birth Certificate Program event at the new Palmerston office, offering free birth certificates for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The program, supported by Births, Deaths and Marriages – Northern Territory Government, aims to break down barriers to accessing employment and essential services such as healthcare, education, and housing.
"Having a birth certificate can transform a person's life by ensuring their right to be recognised and access vital services," Mr Brennan said.
"This program is about restoring identity and opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people."
The event was free, confidential, and open to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
