West Australian Police have charged a Derby man with murder after the death of a woman in Fitzroy Crossing at the weekend.

Police say a 32-year-old woman was found unresponsive after officers attended a Flynn Drive residence at 11:05pm on Saturday following reports of a disturbance.

Paramedics also attended the scene and provided emergency treatment, however the woman, who National Indigenous Times understands is Aboriginal, died at the scene.

She is at least the 20th Indigenous woman to die in an alleged domestic violence related incident in 2024.

Samuel Jade Lincoln Jingle was charged with one count of murder on Monday after an investigation by the homicide squad, with a police spokesperson saying the man and woman were known to each other.

Mr Jingle appeared in the Broome Magistrate's Court via video link on Monday morning.

Asked if he understood the charge against him, he responded, "Yeah".

Mr Jingle was remanded in custody and is scheduled to reappear at the Stirling Gardens Magistrate's Court on January 22.
