A second half hat-trick for Selwyn Cobbo headlined a dominant display by Queensland to force an Origin decider at Suncorp, and leave New South Wales searching for answers after they were picked apart in game two in Melbourne on Wednesday night.
The Blues had the better of the first 40 minutes, and took a 12-8 lead into half time, before the Maroons stacked on six tries to two and claimed a 44-22 win in front of a record crowd at the MCG.
Cobbo ran over for three on the left wing in a dangerous combination with Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, who had one of his own, in an unrelenting display after the break.
He'd been good with the ball, but looked a little shaky in defence trying to contain Blues debutant Mark Nawaqanitawase through the first half.
Kalyn Ponga was influential at fullback, leaving Reece Walsh unused after questions around what his contributions to the match would look like dominated discussion in the lead-up, after his re-selection into Billy Slater's squad.
Both sides looked threatening when they went wide, the Blues most destructive when Wiradjuri man Kotoni Staggs and Nawaqanitawase got the ball in their hands on the right wing.
Staggs had crossed over for the game's opener, and his first Origin try early on, while the debutant made the biggest contribution to NSW's score.
It was Cobbo's show, however, starting almost immediately when the second half got underway.

The 24-year-old had Blues defenders hanging off him in a massive line break to set the tone in the Maroons' first set out of the sheds.
He soon after gave Queensland the lead on the end of a kick with a paddock of space in the corner.
There was a lot more effort involved in the Cherbourg talent's second and third, doing just enough to deny NSW's efforts attempting to drag him into touch on both occasions.
It's been an impressive display from Cobbo on return to the Origin arena in 2026, running for 199 metres with seven tackle breaks in front of 91,000 in Melbourne after a solid showing in a losing effort at Sydney three weeks ago.
Queensland's left side, with Ponga dictating play at fullback, were the Blues' biggest headaches under serious siege.
Tabuai-Fidow had threatened in the first half, and finished off a very slick piece of play combining with Cobbo for their side's fifth try of the night.
Staggs was sent to the sin bin for 10 in the same play, rushing out of the line and collecting Ponga high after releasing the pass.
He'll await a judiciary decision having been put on report for the shot.

Mark Nawaqanitawase gave the Blues a glimmer of hope in the 59th minute, and Mitchell Barnett ran over for a consolation try late in the piece with the result already well and truely sewn up.
New Maroons halfback Sam Walker continued to look right at home in Origin and was perfect from the kicking tee with seven from seven, including a penalty goal early on.
The series moves to a game three decider in Brisbane on July 8.
"I just come in and do my role for the team," Cobbo told Nine after his big night.
Extra training and work behind the scenes through the week paid off, Cobbo said, paying plenty of credit to his teammates' work in the middle.
"It's a team effort, and we've got that win for all the Queenslanders back home," he said.

Torres Strait forward Reuben Cotter with 124 carrying metres - 42 post-contact, and 33 tackles.
Attention will turn Blues coach and Indigenous team of the Century member Laurie Daley after the second half inability to contain Queensland's attack.
"It was what we were expecting at half time...in the second half we missed the mark on a lot of things," Daley said post-match.
"There were a lot of areas (NSW were disappointing), and they just sort of compounded...Queensland were very good.
Daley admitted they'll have to find some answers, but is confident they can do so.
Latrell Mitchell is a chance to be fit for game three.
