South Australia's Southern Boomerangs have announced their squad for the upcoming National Indigenous Cricket Championships.
The Boomerangs will travel to Mackay to contest the Championships, marking the first time the tournament has been held away from its traditional home of Alice Springs.
Having included both white ball formats in previous years, Boomerangs head coach, James Dunn, said the side has been specifically preparing for the all T20 tournament.
"The National Indigenous Cricket Championships are a fantastic opportunity for our squad to showcase their skills and represent their state, communities and themselves," Dunn said
"We have had a positive lead into the Championships and are honing our skills towards the T20 brand of cricket we want to play."
The Boomerangs' squad announcement comes after the Northern Territory last week announced the return of its men's side to the tournament.
The South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) said this year's Boomerangs squad, which will be captained by Prospect District Cricket Club's Jack Coppins, represents a blend of experienced players and emerging talent, all of whom have demonstrated exceptional ability and passion for the game.
Dunn said through the SACA Development Academy, players are being supported so they can showcase their skills at national championships level.
"We're looking forward to a competitive and exciting tournament," Dunn said.
"The younger players that are in the squad have come through the Aboriginal Junior Academy pathway, which has been a great success over the past four years, and it will continue to develop young First Nations people."
Previously a division of the Imparja Cup, the National Indigenous Cricket Championships was previously held in Alice Springs between 2016 and 2024, with the tournament cancelled in 2021 and 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moving to Yuwibara Country in North Queensland, the NICC will be contested at Great Barrier Reef Arena, a venue which has hosted international fixtures in recent years.
The National Indigenous Cricket Championships will be held at Mackay's Great Barrier Reef Arena and Harrup Park from April 2-7.
