Worimi fast bowler Brendan Doggett has been selected in Australia A's squad for a four-day tour match against the England Lions.
The 30-year-old is the only First Nations player in the 12-man squad, his selection following that of teenage quick Charlie Anderson in a Cricket Australia XI who commenced a four-day fixture against the Lions on Tuesday.
Doggett's selection comes after he took a career best 6/15 against India A in the first of two unofficial Tests in October and November against the touring Indian squad ahead of the recently completed Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
During the series he was withdrawn from Big Bash League duties with the Adelaide Strikers and added to the Australian Test squad as cover for Josh Hazlewood, who was ruled out of the second Test due to a side strain.
However Doggett wasn't picked in the playing XI, selectors instead favouring cult hero Scott Boland.
After returning to the Strikers lineup earlier this month, Doggett produced a miraculous lower order cameo and career best of 47* (39) to set a record eighth wicket partnership for the franchise, rescuing his side from a miserly 8/58 to 8/142 alongside veteran spinner Cameron Boyce.
In the same match he delivered a tidy 1/19 with the ball, however the Scorchers ran out winners by a comfortable seven wickets with more than five overs remaining.
At First Class level for South Australia this season, the 30-year-old has 11 wickets at 34.27, his best bowling coming against Western Australia where he took 5/97 in a drawn match under lights at the Adelaide Oval in November.
National selector Tony Dodemaide said the fixture presented as a "valuable opportunity to expose exciting young talent against quality international opposition with a longer lens".
"We expect a highly competitive contest against a Lions team who will be keen to stake their individual claims for selection in next summer's Ashes tour of Australia," Dodemaide said.
Australia A face the England Lions at Sydney's Cricket Central from 30 January to 2 February.
