The Voice to Parliament has been defeated, according to ABC political analyst Antony Green.

Green declared the 'No' vote victorious at approximately 7:25pm eastern time.

The declaration came with the national 'No' vote at 55 per cent, compared to 45 per cent for 'Yes'.

Called less than ninety minutes after polling booths closed on the east coast, Green said a majority 'No' vote in New South Wales, South Australia and Tasmania was enough to defeat the government's proposed constitutional change.

To be successful, the referendum required at least four states to return a majority 'Yes' vote.

So far, the Australian Capital Territory is the only state projected to return a majority 'Yes' vote.

As of 4:45pm WST, Queensland, Western Australia are yet to be called.

More to come.
