The National Indigenous Training Academy (NITA) has celebrated more than 750 Indigenous students graduating from its nationally recognised Certificate III traineeships in Hospitality and Tourism — including 650 from its Ayers Rock Resort campus in the Northern Territory.
Run by Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia, NITA operates across two sites: Ayers Rock Resort near Uluru and Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre in Far North Queensland. The academy delivers tailored training programs that provide young Indigenous Australians with practical skills and qualifications to launch careers in tourism and hospitality.
Among this year's standouts is NITA graduate Kit Hawes, who now works at the academy as a qualified Education Support and Training Co-ordinator. She was recently named Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year at the 2025 GTNT Group Awards.
"Being part of NITA has changed my life. I've gained skills, confidence, and a clear path forward," Ms Hawes said.
"I hope more young Indigenous Australians take this opportunity—it's worth it."

NITA has also been recognised as a finalist in the 2025 Northern Territory Training Awards in the Small Training Provider of the Year category. Winners will go on to represent the NT at the Australian Training Awards, gaining national recognition and broader opportunities.
Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia chief executive, Matt Cameron-Smith, said these milestones reflect the "dedication of our students, trainers, and community partners".
"NITA is not just a training academy — it's a launchpad for Indigenous success," he said.
"At Voyages, we believe in creating pathways that empower Indigenous Australians to thrive in the tourism industry and beyond. NITA plays a vital role in this mission — providing not only skills and qualifications, but also confidence, pride, and a sense of purpose."
Mr Cameron-Smith said the most rewarding part is seeing graduates step into leadership roles.
"We're incredibly proud of Kit and all our graduates who are shaping the future of their communities," he said.
NITA encourages young Indigenous Australians to explore the opportunities available through its programs. More information is available online.
