Port forward Willie Rioli has shared racist and homophobic slurs received after declaring his "hatred" for Hawthorn after the two clubs' Gather Round clash.

On Monday afternoon, Rioli collated separate messages received - including personal, racist and homophobic attacks, following an earlier post where the former Eagle vented personal issues with the Hawks.

In the earlier post, Rioli reportedly wrote "Play with fire, your gonna get burnt" on top of a clip featuring his late goals in the 30-point win.

"My hatred for this club goes way pass last year antics, what they did to my dad, and my brother, is why I can't stand them, not the players #Cococlub."

Later, Rioli posted another Instragram story featuring direct messages from social media users, seemingly in response to his comments about the Hawks.

One user taunted Rioli in relation to his late father's brief period the Hawks in the 1990s, adding "Nothing but sore losers and once little bit of heat gets given back you all go cry to the media for racism" alongside weight-related taunts.

"get a life you lowlife f**k we arnt racist ya little black c**t", another user lacking self-awareness wrote.

Another troll appeared to make reference to Rioli's ASADA ban earlier in his career, with a fourth user directing a homophobic slur at the Port star.

Both of Rioli's posts have since been deleted, the first taken down prior to Rioli sharing the vilification he received online.

The AFL Players' Association backed Rioli, and expressed their disappointment in the messages he received.

"The racist and homophobic comments sent to Willie on his social media accounts are beyond acceptable," Paul Marsh, who resigned as AFLPA chief executive last week, said in a statement.

"For what feels like the 1000th time, we ask these so-called football supporters to stop racially abusing the players.

"Thanks to those fans who continue to call this out."

The Hawks-Power rivalry has become a new grudge match for the league, off the back of Port's progress into last year's preliminary finals over Hawthorn and Power coach Ken Hinkley's conduct following their semi.

Rioli kicked three majors on Sunday in their highly-anticipated first meeting since - his second after flaunting the ball to the Hawks defence while alone in the goal square before a third from a free kick drawn in the resulting boil-over to help seal the result.

Rioli's father, Willie Snr, was drafted to the Hawks in 1990 but he didn't play a senior game for the club.

The Port star's cousin, Cyril Rioli, was a key figure in the Hawthorn racism scandal and legal proceedings against the club settled last year.

In a statement on Monday evening, Port Adelaide stated Rioli and his family "continue to carry deep-seated pain and sadness from past family experiences".

"Despite the depth of feeling Willie and his family have, social media was not the appropriate forum for Willie to share his emotions last night. Willie understands this," the club said, AAP reports.

"Willie's welfare remains our priority and the club will continue to provide support for Willie and his family through this time."
