After three years of cancellations the National Gallery of Victoria relaunched its most dazzling event, the NGV Gala, on December 10th in Naarm (Melbourne).
Described as a smaller version of the USA's Met Gala and partnered with Tiffany & Co, Visit Victoria, Vogue Australia and Moet & Chandon, the event's glitz and glamour attracted the hottest guestlist of First Nations fashion and the arts including model Samantha Harris, GQ Model of the Year Nathan McGuire, rapper Danzal Baker (Baker Boy), music sensation Thelma Plum, and philanthropist former AFL champion Adam Goodes.
An intersection of art, fashion and music, this year saw the first major exhibition of the late Alexander McQueen titled Mind, Mythos, Muse. The British fashion designer was best known for exploring the blurred boundaries between fashion runways and artistic expression as well as his exceptional technical ability. His designs, once misunderstood, are now celebrated and held in high esteem.

The exhibition remained open for the entire evening allowing guests to wander but as the night graduated from dinner to dance party it was Yongu rapper and five-time ARIA winner Baker Boy who went to work hosting and entertaining the A-list crowd followed by Yorta Yorta and Wiradjuri DJ Soju Gang who kept the party rolling into the late hours.

Arguably the best dressed of the night was international model and Awakbal woman Charlee Fraser wearing an NGV commissioned piece designed by Maara Collective founder Julie Shaw in collaboration with Yuwaalaraay Creative. The marigold gown with fitted bodice and sprawling train an absolute showstopper sending paparazzi into overdrive during the red-carpet arrivals.
Also among the star-studded guestlist was guest of honour and supermodel Shalom Harlow, Heartbreak High's James Majoos and Ayesha Madon, veteran model Megan Gale and Julie Bishop attending with her new beau.
