Victoria's Koorie Heritage Trust has opened entries for First Nations artists living in Victoria to participate in this year's Koorie Art Show.

Held as an annual event, Koorie Heritage Trust's art show is an open-entry, non-acquisitive award exhibition. Celebrating 12 years, the show is open to all First Nations artists, designers and craftspeople whether they are emerging or established creatives.

Koorie Heritage Trust CEO, Tom Mosby shared his excitement about seeing the art show return, saying it is a great opportunity for artists and creatives to showcase their work in a central location.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for all First Peoples to showcase their art in a central location at Fed Square in Narrm (Melbourne)," Mr Mosby said.

"Significantly, we accept all artworks. All you need to do is submit an entry form by the due date for your work to be accepted.

"Each work will be professionally photographed and installed in our beautiful new galleries in the Birrarung Building at Fed Square.

"I encourage all artists to enter and join us in another exciting year for the Koorie Art Show."

With entries now open and closing at midnight on Sunday 29 September, those wishing to take part in the art show are being encouraged to fill in an entry form sooner rather than later.

Showcasing traditional and contemporary works across a variety of mediums - from digital illustrations to paintings, prints, textiles, ceramics and more - the Koorie Art Show highlights the cultural richness of First Nations people's creativity, whilst also providing a snapshot of what is happening now in Indigenous art across Victoria.

When it comes to the judging process, Koorie Heritage Trust has announced all entries will be independently judged for a range of Awards, with significant cash prizes.

Awards include: Creative Victoria Award for Excellence in any Media ($10,000); Viva Energy 3D Award ($5000); RMIT University 2D Award ($5,000); Josh Muir Digital Art Award ($3000); the People's Choice Award ($1000); and two Encouragement Awards ($500 each).

With applications now open for entry, this exhibition showcases the diverse talent of Victoria's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists aged between 5 and 16 years of age.

All visual arts mediums are eligible and previous exhibitions have included painting, drawing, photography, textiles, prints, sculpture, video and installations.

All works will also be available for sale to the public.

The Koorie Art Show runs from Saturday 7 December 2024 to Sunday 23 February 2025 at the Koorie Heritage Trust, Birrarung Building, Fed Square.

Call for entries is now open, closing midnight Sunday 29 September.
