Former West Coast Eagles player David Wirrpanda has been fined $700 and issued a spent conviction for breaching a family violence restraining order twice.

Mr Wirrapanda, 45, was initially charged with four counts of the order to a woman, who is known to the former Eagle, when communicating with her in October.

Prosecutors discontinued two of those charges on Tuesday.

Described by Magistrate Lynette Dias as on the "lower end" of the scale, Mr Wirrpanda pleaded guilty to the two other charges when fronting the Perth Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

The West Australian reported Mr Wirrpanda received a notification regarding a photo on social media of the victim before he liked it via a love heart emoji.

He was then accused of sending a text which said: "Sorry, I'll be in trouble, but my love is way too strong. Sorry, I'll take it when it comes."

His lawyer said Mr Wirrpanda's only previous offending was having a traffic record and was "extremely embarrassed" by the offending.

While acknowledging the offending was on the lower end of the scale, Magistrate Dias said: "The orders are made for a reason to protect vulnerable members of the community."

He was fined $700, plus court costs, and granted a spent conviction.

Mr Wirrpanda was drafted by West Coast in 1995 and, at 16 years and 268 days old on debut, remains the youngest player to have played a senior game for the club.

After 227 games for the Eagles, Mr Wirrapanda retired in 2009 and focussed on charity work. Established in 2005 as the Wirrpanda Foundation, now Waalitj Foundation, it is aimed at providing education, employment, and business opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

He also operates a cleaning product business, Wirrpanda Supplies.
