Port Adelaide defender Lachie Jones will spend a month on the sidelines after suffering a broken jaw in his side's win over the Western Bulldogs on Friday.
The Yanyuwa man was injured during a collision during the fourth quarter but was able to play out the remainder of the contest.
Later X-ray results confirmed a fracture to the jaw.
It's cruel timing for Jones after "probably his best game for the club", according to Port assistant coach Josh Carr. The 21-year-old had only recently establishing himself back into the Power's senior side who are now sitting second after ten wins on the trot.
"It's obviously disappointing. (It was) probably his best game for the club off the back of a really solid month coming back into the team and he's been playing a really important role for us and being confident in that role also," Carr said on Jones' injury on Monday.
"It's disappointing to lose him while he's up and about but I think he'll have a lot of confidence now in preparing to come back and being ready for AFL again.
"After the game he seemed in good spirits (but) he'll be disappointed. He's a country boy (though so) he's pretty laid back and I'm sure he'll move on pretty quickly."
Jones had a career-high 19 disposals, six marks and season-best kicking and tackling stats against the Dogs in round 13.
The club said the injury will not require surgery.
Jones has played 26 career games since his debut in 2021 after being selected with pick 16 in the previous year's draft.
In 2022, Jones was awarded the Gavin Wanganeen Medal for Port's best player under 21 years old.
