A Bundaberg Indigenous leader will stand trial over sexual assault charges.
Kerry Blackman, the former chief executive of the Gidarjil Development Corporation, has been committed to stand trial on five counts of sexual assault and one count of common assault.
The alleged offences are understood to have occurred between September 2017 and July 2023.
Proceedings before Judge Brad Farr have been prolonged since Mr Blackman was first charged in late 2024. The ABC reported the defence said it was still waiting on an alibi statement from the Crown.
The Crown told the court during a brief mention at the Bundaberg District Court on Monday that it had been unable to obtain the statement to be given to Dr Blackman's wife despite multiple texts and calls, and that the next step would involve an arresting officer attending her home.
Judge Farrer said this could be done before the trial, the ABC reported.
The matter has been listed for trial during the Bundaberg District Court sittings beginning June 15.
