Port young gun Jase Burgoyne is holding on to hopes friend and in-demand Saint Nasiah Wanganeen Milera might join him at the club, saying the pair would have "fun" playing together in their home state following his own contract extension.

Burgoyne, 21, ended any discussion around whether he would be at Alberton beyond the current year after putting pen-to-paper on a four-year agreement.

The father-son pick will remain at the Power until at least the end of 2029 on new the deal.

"It's probably been a long time coming," Burgoyne told media on Thursday, adding he wanted to focus on his footy first and foremost in 2025 and let his management handle contract talks.

"Being from Adelaide, obviously that's something that I was happy with…my family and friends are here, and I was happy to stay.

"If they're (Port Adelaide) going to give me that four years, (it) obviously shows their faith in me and they believe in what I can do. So I'm very happy."

It was an easy decision to stay home in the end, Burgoyne added, stating he wasn't made privy to any rival club's interest in tempting him into a change away from his boyhood club.

There was reported outside interest in the silky ball user.

Burgoyne was also keen to keep the family name going at the club. His father and Port Hall of Famer Peter made 240 appearances for the club - including the 2004 premiership alongside brother Shaun before his move to Hawthorn.

Peter Burgoyne senior, the current star's grandfather, is a former SANFL player - also at Port.

Speaking on Thursday, Jase Burgoyne kept the door open on another family connection coming across to join him.

Burgoyne is close friends with St Kilda's Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - who's been a hot topic of speculation as a potential poach to come home for either the Crows or Power across 2025.

Recently, reports have suggested he's closer to remaining in Melbourne.

His uncle, Gavin Wanganeen is a Port legend and inaugural captain on their entry into the national competition in 1997.

As far as he knows, Burgoyne said, a decision is yet to have been made.

"He's undecided at the moment…he's going to do what's best for him and his family. So whether that's to come, or stay at Saints, I back him in to make the best decision he can.

"But I'd love to have him here. I think all the boys would love to have him, and the fans, because he's such a talent, and he could push us further into the contention of a premiership.

Burgoyne added the pair are "pretty much like brothers" having known each other since childhood.

Earlier in the season, rumours around Wanganeen-Milera's interest in the South Australian capital heated up after a catch up with Burgoyne and Jason Horne-Francis.

"It's obviously a serious serious job, AFL, but I said to him, 'justy think about the fun we could have as well,"

"Hopefully Port is the only decision he would make if he came back home".

On his own future, Burgoyne said he's keen to hit a new level, whether that's on the back flank or wing.

He's happy to play either role, he stated, but his preferred position is coming out of the defensive fifty.

"Coming into games, I want to be the best player on the field."

Burgoyne debuted in round 16 of the 2023 season before a breakout year in Port's push at a grand final appearance last year.

He's averaging 20 touches a game in 2025.
