Proud Awabakal woman Kate Russell is the new Chief Executive Officer of Supply Nation.

Mr Russell, who is a senior associate with the First Nations company, Thirriwirri, takes over the reins from departing interim CEO Michelle Deshong on July 31.

"I am thrilled to be appointed to lead Supply Nation," Ms Russell said.

"My focus will be delivering Supply Nation's vision of a prosperous, vibrant, and sustainable Indigenous business sector."

A board director on the New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council since early 2020, Ms Russell said there has been growth in both the corporate and government membership of Supply Nation in recent years.

She is expected to focus on shaping Supply Nation's strategic direction, expanding its network of certified suppliers, and strengthening relationships with corporate partners.

"I look forward to working with our stakeholders, partners, and the incredible Supply Nation team, to build on this growth," she said.

Supply Nation Co-Chair, Glenn Johnston said Ms Russell brought years of experience in First Nations' policy, business operations, diversity recruitment, and regional communities.

"Kate's background, strategic vision, and passion for driving inclusive business practices positions her well to lead Supply Nation in its mission to champion supplier diversity and promote economic empowerment for Indigenous and diverse-owned businesses," he said.

Since 2009, Supply Nation has worked with thousands of First Nations businesses to help them flourish and shape the ever-growing Indigenous business community.

Supply Nation currently connects over 4,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses with over 700 member organisations.
