Samoan-Australian boxer, Jai Opetaia delivered a devastating fourth-round knockout of David Nyika to retain his IBF and The Ring cruiserweight titles at the Gold Coast Exhibition Centre.

The previously unbeaten Nyika was floored by a series of powerful punches and remained on the canvas for several minutes, sparking concern among the crowd.

Trainers assisted Nyika to his feet, and his smile upon seeing himself on the big screen drew cheers from the audience.

"David, thank you - he took the fight on three weeks notice," Opetaia said.

"He gave me a dog fight, I respect that."

Opetaia (27-0, 21 KOs) now has his sights set on a unification bout against Mexico's Gilberto Ramirez, who holds the WBA and WBO cruiserweight titles.

The fight is likely to take place in Saudi Arabia on May 3.

Promoter Eddie Hearn praised Opetaia's potential, saying he could become undisputed and eventually move up to heavyweight to challenge Oleksandr Usyk within 18 months.

Boxing legend Anthony Mundine praised Opetaia's efforts.

"Jai is an offensive juggernaut," he said.

Earlier on the card, Queensland heavyweight Justis Huni (12-0) defended his IBO Global title with a swift TKO over Shaun Potgieter.

Huni overwhelmed his opponent with sharp body blows and a decisive right cross in the second round.
