Collingwood AFLW recruit Mattea Breed is set to miss the upcoming season after being placed on the club's Inactive List.

The 24-year-old Tiwi woman, who joined the Magpies from Hawthorn in the off-season, is recovering from patellar tendon surgery after battling an ongoing issue in recent months.

General Manager of Women's Football Jess Burger said the club will rally around Breed following the setback.

"This is unfortunate news for Mattea, who's only recently joined the program but has already shown great potential and dedication," Burger said.

"Although this is a challenging setback, she has shown incredible character and resilience.

"Mattea will continue to support off the field and remains strongly connected with the group.

"We'll ensure she feels fully supported during this period – our medical team, coaches, staff and players will all wrap our arms around her throughout the recovery journey."

Breed was a key contributor for the Hawks in 2024, averaging 14 disposals and tallying 50 clearances for the season.
