Ngarigo tennis champion Ash Barty had a remarkable 2022 but on Friday evening she announced 2023 would be "the best year yet", revealing to fans on Instagram that she is expecting a child.
Barty posted a photograph of her dog Origi with a tiny pair of tennis shoes, with the caption:
2023 set to be the best year yet. We are so excited for our new adventure 👶🏼💫
Origi already the protective big sister❤️
Last year saw Barty win the Australian Open, receive her her fifth straight Newcombe medal - the highest honour in Australian tennis, be honoured with the National NAIDOC Person Award, and become only the third athlete in history to win a second Don Award.
On Thursday it was revealed Barty will return to Melbourne Park for this year's Australian Open to mentor rising Queensland prodigy Olivia Gadecki.
