Brisbane Lions teammates will "wrap our arms" around Dakota Davidson after reported crowd abuse left the key forward in tears during Indigenous Round on Sunday.

An AFL Integrity Unit investigation has been launched following the incident.

First reported by AFL.com.au on Monday, Davidson, on return from concussion to close out the defending premiers' home-and-away season against Euro-Yroke (St Kilda) at Moorabbin's RSEA Park, is understood to have spoken with an on-field umpire during the three quarter time break in relation to alleged abuse from a crowd member.

Appearing in tears, the 2023 All Australian and Gunditjmara woman was consoled by teammates before joining the huddle.

The crowd member was reportedly ejected from the ground shortly after.

While the type of abuse has not been confirmed, it has been suggested it was in relation to Davidson's appearance.

Brisbane coach Craign Starcevich, head of women's football Breeanna Brock and the two-time premiership player are understood to have spoken with match officials following their 27-point win over the Saints.

In a statement to AFL.com.au, the Lions acknowledged the incident, with the league said to have confirmed it was reported to the Integrity Unit.

"The club was made aware of an incident between a patron and Dakota Davidson during the match against St Kilda yesterday," Brisbane reportedly said in a statement.

"The club would like to thank the match manager, St Kilda players, staff and fans along with the security at the venue who dealt with the incident, the matter has been referred to the AFL Integrity unit."

Earlier this year, Davidson recounted her experiences of negative online trolling in an emotional podcast discussion.

Speaking ahead of their qualifying final against Hawthorn this weekend, teammate Lily Postlethwaite said the group will "fully wrap our arms around" Davidson.

After a career-best 23 majors en route to a second premiership last year, Davidson has endured an interrupted 2024.

The tall target overcame a knee injury scare in last year's preliminary final before personal heroics in the later stages helped the Lions to triumph over North Melbourne in last December's divider.

"She's a great leader in that part of the ground (the forward line), and really rallies everyone around...she's a super competitor down there, and we love her down there," Postlethwaite said on Tuesday.

Davidson signed a three-year extension in July to remain at the club until at least the end of 2027.

The Lions play Hawthorn in the second qualifying final at IKON Park on Sunday afternoon.
