Storm cop another blow with forward's big ban

Melbourne's NRL premiership tilt has received another blow, with Nelson Asofa-Solomona receiving a three-game suspension that is likely to end his season.

On the night Storm halfback Jahrome Hughes suffered a likely season-ending wrist injury, Asofa-Solomona went to the sin bin for making shoulder contact with the head of Brisbane prop Ben Talty.

The morning after the 30-14 loss to the Broncos, the Kiwi international received a grade-two careless high tackle charge, his third judiciary charge in the Storm's past eight games.

Assuming he accepts an early guilty plea, the only way Asofa-Solomona will play again this year is if the Storm lose their qualifying final against Canterbury and then make it to the grand final.

If he were to unsuccessfully challenge the charge, Asofa-Solomona would miss four games, guaranteeing he would miss the entire finals series, which begins next week.

It looms as a disappointing end to a poor season for Asofa-Solomona, who also missed last year's grand final loss to Penrith through suspension.

Despite his underwhelming form this year, Asofa-Solomona remains integral to the Storm's forward pack and his absence is set to frustrate coach Craig Bellamy.

"I'm not quite sure what's going to happen with it (at the match review committee), but it's disappointing. It's disappointing," Bellamy said after the Storm's second consecutive loss.

NSW representative Stefano Utoikamanu is the likeliest man to replace Asofa-Solomona in the 17 next week after being rested for round 27.

The second-placed Storm will regain Harry Grant from suspension for next week's finals match against the Bulldogs at AAMI Park.
