The Broncos appear to have reunited with NRLW gun and Indigenous All Star Tamika Upton, almost three years after she departed the club, following her release from the Knights last month.

Brisbane are understood to have beaten rivals Gold Coast and North Queensland for her signature after Upton requested the release from Newcastle for a move back to her home state for personal and family reasons, but it has not been officially confirmed.

The fullback had three years remaining on her contract.

Upton lifted back-to-back premierships with the Knights in 2022 and again in 2023 - the same year she was awarded the Dally M Medal.

"Whilst we are disappointed to see Tamika depart the club, she leaves this community with unforgettable memories, for which we will be forever grateful, and we wish her the absolute best for the future," Knights director of football Peter Parr said via a club statement on November 21.

Tamika thanked Parr and club chief executive Philip Gardner for their understanding and support.

"The Newcastle Knights will always have a special place in my heart," the 27-year-old said.

"This has been very difficult for me, because of how much I have loved representing the Knights and being part of the Hunter community.

Upton's set return to Red Hill comes after leaving to join Newcastle following the 2021 season.

She previously played three seasons with the Broncos.

Upton's likely first return to McDonald Jones Stadium will be in state colours for the Maroons in the State of Origin game III on May 29, ahead of the 2025 NRLW season.
