The National Association of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners (NAATSIHWP) has reopened applications for its annual Robert Dann Memorial Scholarships, joined in 2026 by a new scholarship program supported by the Aspen Medical Foundation.

The scholarships honours the legacy of Yamatji man Robert Dann, the founding member of NAATSIHWP and the association's inaugural board chairperson and deputy chairperson.

Designed to advance Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health leadership, the scholarships assist members in gaining or upgrading qualifications in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health work or practice, including additional studies in chronic disease care.

A total of 20 scholarships worth $1,000 each are available to eligible full and student members.

Previous recipient Catherine Noble, an Aboriginal Cancer Care Coordinator in Dubbo, used the support to continue helping communities.

"With the scholarship, I purchased myself a laptop so I could continue my professional development across the footprint that I cover so I can help many mobs out there," Ms Noble said.

Another past recipient, Tara, said the support strengthened her commitment to community.

"I want to say a sincere thanks to NAATSIHWP for this recognition," she said.

"Your support inspires me to continue to work hard to give back to my community."

Debora, a proud Wakka Wakka woman and Advanced Health Worker in palliative care, described the award as a major milestone.

"I have been chosen by NAATSIHWP as one of the Robert Dann Memorial scholarship recipients, which is a huge honour and privilege," she said.

"I'm currently studying at CQU undertaking the Cert IV in ATSI Primary Healthcare Practice."

Applicants must be current full or student members of NAATSIHWP and enrolled in eligible courses.

Those interested in applying or becoming a member are encouraged to visit the NAATSIHWP website.

Applications opened on 19 January and close on Wednesday 11 February 2026.
