The Power and Water Corporation' series of Life Support Service awareness videos in different Aboriginal languages aims to help keep Territorians informed.

The videos, available online, help people better understand how to register for the free service, which provides critical support for vulnerable customers who rely on life-support equipment at home.

Those who register receive advance notice of planned power or water outages, so they can enact their back-up plan to stay safe and supported.

Recognising many Aboriginal Territorians do not speak English as their first language, Power and Water partnered with the Aboriginal Interpreter Service to produce videos that explain: what counts as life-support equipment (for example, medical devices and fridges for storing life-saving medicine); and how to register for the service.

Power and Water General Manager Customer Experience and Operations, Michelle Flynn, said this initiative - launched in December - demonstrates Power and Water's "commitment to accessibility, cultural respect and community safety, and forms part of the organisation's ongoing work to strengthen reconciliation".

"We want every Territorian, no matter where they live or what language they speak, to know about this free Life Support Service. Producing videos in language will allow us to reach more people," she said.

"The videos will help families understand how to register for the Life Support Service and prepare for planned service interruptions. It's about keeping people safe, respecting culture and ensuring no one is left behind."

The videos are available in Alyyawarr, Anindilyakwa, Anmatyerr, Burarra, Eastern and Central Arrernte, East Side Kriol, Kunwinjku, Maung, Murrinh Patha, Ngarinyman, Pintupi-Luritja, Pitjantjatjara, Tiwi, Warlpiri, Warumungu, Western Arrernte, West Side Kriol and Yolŋu Matha.

Power and Water has been distributing the videos to stakeholders to spread the word.

The videos, Life Support Service resources, and information about what to consider when making a back-up plan are available online at powerwater.com.au or by calling the remote customer service line on 1800 245 091.
