Collingwood coach Craig McRae has confirmed lively forward Bobby Hill will return to face Hawthorn this weekend after missing the Pies' round 20 loss to Carlton through illness.

Hill, 23, was struck down after a number of players sat out of training through sickness, which spread through the club.

His inclusion might have provided a missing link in Collingwood's wayward forward line in front of 86,000 fans at the weekend.

The Blues ran away 14.9 (93) to 10.16 (76) victors on the night.

Since crossing over from GWS at the end of 2022, Hill has slotted 22.11 in front of goal in black and white.

McRae said Hill's form over the year makes it hard to pass up the opportunity to bring him straight back into the side.

"Bobby will play. He'll be hard to hold out of the team. His performances this year warrant that. You earn certain things in life, don't you? They say the harder you work, the luckier you get and he's been working pretty hard," he said this week.

Collingwood head of high-performance Jarrod Wade said Hill had bounced back into preparations to face the Hawks after missing out at the weekend.

"He was able to get into some light training over the weekend on his own and has now returned to the group and will be available for selection this week," Wade said.

"He's bounced back really positively from that illness and we're not expecting any issues for Bobby this week."

The Hawks are assessing their options on bringing Karl Amon back into their 22 after the wingman missed their weekend's disappointing loss to St Kilda.

Hawthorn fought back from a tough first half to trail the Saints by as little as 11 points before letting things slip again in the final term.

Amon had been ruled out of the contest with a knee injury after being close to best-on-ground with 27 touches in the Hawks one-point loss to Richmond the week prior.

The 27-year-old has progressed back into running work this week after a period using the club's anti-gravity treadmill.

"We've progressed to outside running today, straight lines on grass," Hawthorn high performance manager Peter Burge said on Tuesday.

"He feels much better but, we'll want to look at him Thursday and see where it's at and see what level we can get him to before we make a decision on the weekend."

An eye injury to Lions defender Keidean Coleman will see the 23-year-old miss "at least" one week, according to the club.

The Lions injury list announcement prescribed a possible fortnight on the sidelines.
