A desperate search is underway for a 15-year-old girl who vanished from her home on Christmas Eve.

Jalarna Buchanan was last seen in the Inner West suburb of Erskineville about 1.30pm on December 24.

Police were called in to help with the search on the 27th after family attempts to locate and contact her failed.
