Former Essendon-listed small forward Jayden Davey produced the best game of his VFL career on the weekend, kicking five goals in St Kilda's eight-point loss to Frankston.

Davey, who played in the backline in Round 1, was moved forward for Round 2 and made an immediate impact.

His speed, pressure and small forward craft stood out as he helped drag the Saints back into the contest.

He kicked two goals in the second quarter before adding another three in a blistering 10-minute burst during the third term.

Davey finished with 12 disposals and 5.2 as Frankston held on to win 10.13 (73) to 9.11 (65).

It continues a strong run of form for the Top End product, who is coming off an impressive Northern Territory Football League season with his junior club Palmerston.

Davey capped off that campaign by winning the Magpies' best-and-fairest, making history alongside his father Alwyn Davey as the first father-son duo to both claim the award.

The 22-year-old spent two seasons on Essendon's AFL list but was unable to break through for a senior game.

He played three VFL matches for Port Melbourne in 2025 before landing at St Kilda.

Meanwhile, James Bell has continued his hot start to the VFL season with Greater Western Sydney.

Bell had 29 disposals, seven tackles and seven clearances in the Giants' 16-point win over Collingwood on Friday night.

It followed a dominant Round 1 showing against St Kilda, where he gathered 36 disposals.

The former Sydney midfielder has made an excellent start to the year and is giving the Giants strong drive around the contest.

Over in the SANFL, Rome Burgoyne was a standout for Port Adelaide despite the Magpies going down to Glenelg by 47 points.

Burgoyne collected a career-high 36 disposals and was named Port Adelaide's best player in the loss.

The talented half-back is the son of two-time Port premiership player Peter Burgoyne and the brother of current Power player Jase Burgoyne.

He has built a reputation as a smart reader of the game who can use the ball well by hand and foot.

Burgoyne spent the pre-season training with Port Adelaide's AFL squad, and his progress caught the attention of SANFL coach Jacob Surjan.

"Rome has been training with the AFL program consistently all pre-season and is looking really lean and fit," Surjan told the club's media team during the pre-season.

"He's taken his footy to the next level this off-season."
