Whadjuk Noongar woman Narelda Jacobs has alleged facing racial discrimination at a Melbourne café.

On an Instagram post, the respected news presenter and veteran journalist wrote that she had requested an empty - and unreserved - table at the front of the café but instead was directed to the rear of the venue, only to see the first table offered to the next white man who walked in.

The Channel 10 presenter wrote: "Good morning, Melbourne. Except the one café that refused me a nicely placed empty table."

"Instead, seating me at the back, only to offer the same empty table to the white man who walked in after me," she said.

Ms Jacobs has long been a vocal campaigner for the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait people.

Earlier this month, a report by the Australian Human Rights Commission found racism in Australia is commonplace, normalised and can affect almost every part of a person's daily life.
