Koori Knockout organisers say reports of an all-in brawl said to have left Bulldogs star Josh Addo-Carr knocked-out have been blown out of proportion.
On Saturday, reports emerged that a fight including players and spectators kicked-off after Addo-Carr, playing for Sydney All Blacks, was caught with a high-tackle by a Walgett player during a game between the two sides.
The fight was said to have spilled over into the crowd at the carnival on the NSW Central Coast.
Video footage of the fight circulated online.
A police statement, published by news.com.au, said the situation escalated with spectators becoming involved.
"About 1.45pm (Saturday 30 September 2023), two teams were playing as part of a rugby league carnival at a sporting complex at Tuggerah, when an on-field fight broke out," the statement said.
"Some players and spectators attempted to break up the fight, which then spread off-field, whilst others became involved.
"Police and event security broke up the brawl a short time later and the crowd dispersed, before the game was called off.
"There are no reports of injuries at this time."
The game was called off following the fight.
It was reported Addo-Carr had been involved in a number skirmishes through the contest, and was understood to have left the ground before police arrived.
An NRL spokesperson said "The NRL Integrity Unit has been made aware of the incident and is liaising with the NSWRL, organisers and authorities", via New Corp.
Addo-Carr commented on the incident to his social media later on Saturday, writing "Tell who really got knocked out in the brawl, play dirty cop".
An organiser downplayed the incident, telling National Indigenous Times Addo-Carr was left largely unharmed and the situation had started after a flare-up in the crowd.
The organiser said it was little more than a solid high-tackle on the NSW Origin representative in an already tough game of footy, and that players from both sides had attempted to stop an off-field incident which had broken-out in the midst of tensions.
They said Addo-Carr would have been able to play out the remainder of the match had it continued, police were there witnessing the matter, and the situation could have been avoided "if it had just stayed on the field".
The Koori Knockout Facebook page posted an update saying a decision would be made on which side would progress onto the next round.
Walgett was in the lead at the time of the incident.
It was later confirmed Walgett would continue in the tournament.
