Shaylee Bent has committed to the Gold Coast after partner David Fifita had a change of heart and reneged on a deal to play with Sydney Roosters to remain at the club they share.

The Titans NRLW star felt a sense of relief from Fifita turning down a $3.3 million offer across the next four seasons at Bondi following an approach from his management of his own request to a number of cashed-up clubs.

The Torres Strait Islander changed his mind two weeks ago, only days later, to stay on the Gold Coast for a two-year extension to his current contract until the conclusion of the 2026 season after a pulling away from a handshake deal with the Roosters.

He had also initially turned down another offer from reigning premiers Penrith.

While the Titans were relieved at their utility forward's decision to remain at Robina, arguably no one was more thrilled than his partner.

After four seasons with St George-Illawarra, Bent had signed with Gold Coast ahead of the 2023 NRLW season.

The biggest factor in her choice to relocate to the glitter strip was her relationship with Fifita that began in 2022.

The pair had a long-distance relationship for a good year before she uprooted her life north from Sydney.

The Wiradjuri woman said she was grateful that they wouldn't have to split their time once again.

"I honestly was so pleased," Bent said at a recent Titans press conference.

"I have moved from Penrith to the Gold Coast — I had been back and forth from the Dragons.

"To finally have a year when I'm on the Gold Coast, full-time, and I don't have to do long distance coming back and forth is so pleasing for me."

Bent is off contract at the end of the upcoming NRLW season that coincides with the back half of the NRL rounds and into the NRL finals series.

However, the back-rower has stated her intent, football-wise, before Fifita took on his about-face, was to stay on the Gold Coast regardless.

That intent came close to changing for Bent.

"I'm so thankful that we're both at the Titans this year and hopefully for me next year as well because my life is up there now," she said.

"I'm really happy where I am at the Titans and I love my team.

"The success we had last year — making it to the grand final after coming dead last the year before (at St George-Illawarra).

"So, we're building something big and I want to be there.

"It's the same with David – (Gold Coast) is our home now.

"We love the community, we love the fans, we love the club and we love our teams.

"We've built a life up there so we're really happy. "
