Northern Territory Police have charged a 29-year-old man in a West Arnhem Township with possessing child abuse material.
Last Friday, Detectives from the Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (JACET), alongside local police, executed a search warrant at a home in the township.
They alleged child abuse material from the internet, as well as from Dark Web sites and forums, was found on a seized mobile phone.
The 29-year-old was charged with two counts of accessing child abuse material and possessing or controlling child abuse material.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Mark Cronin said the "accessing, possessing, or distributing child abuse material is a horrific crime that will not be tolerated".
The young man also faces charges of failing to comply with an access order, destroying evidence, five counts of failing to comply with reporting obligations, possessing a Schedule 2 drug in a less than traffickable quantity, and possessing a drug implement.
He appeared in court on Tuesday and was remanded to appear again in January.
Australian Federal Police Detective Acting Superintendent Pixie Fuhrmeister said child abuse material is not "victimless," with every piece of material inflicting harm on real children.
"Every child deserves protection from those who seek to exploit, abuse or harm them," he said.
"We will continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners to protect children and bring alleged offenders before the courts."
