Described as a creative celebration of Asian Influence and the Northern Territory's Deep Ties to the North, this month House of Darwin and Smile and Wave have joined forces for a collaboration that pays tribute to the Northern Territory's long-standing connection with Asia - a relationship shaped by trade, migration, and shared creativity across generations.

Smile and Wave is an independent lifestyle brand founded by designer Sam Chin from her backyard, spider infested shed in Melbourne/Naarm, Australia. Smile and Wave is where creative concepts are crafted into design focussed garments made for every body of every gender.

The brand carries an undertone of Asian influence infused with colour, patterns and texture to create the unique Smile and Wave aesthetic.

This new collection celebrates the cultural exchange between Darwin and its northern neighbours, drawing inspiration from the Territory's tropical climate, multicultural roots, and the rhythmic energy of the region.

From the pearl divers of Broome to the bustling night markets of Darwin, the spirit of collaboration across seas continues to shape how Territorians live, move, and create.

To honour this connection, House of Darwin embarked on its first international photo shoot, setting out across Hong Kong and Shanghai.

The week-long creative journey saw the team immersed in the urban pulse of Asia's great cities capturing moments that echo the shared humidity, vibrancy, and grit that bind the North to its Asian neighbours.

"We wanted to celebrate that invisible thread that's always tied the Top End to the rest of Asia through trade, through food, through family, through art," said House of Darwin founder Shaun Edwards.

The Smile and Wave x House of Darwin capsule strives to blend the relaxed confidence of Northern Australia with the graphic edge of East Asia.

Designed for life between monsoons, the collection features breathable fabrics, hand-drawn motifs, and modern silhouettes inspired by streetwear culture in Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Each piece is a visual love letter to the movement of people, ideas, and celebrate the influence of Asia on the Northern Territory's story.

House of Darwin is a social enterprise from the Northern Territory. Through clothing, design, and storytelling, it works to celebrate and strengthen culture from the Top End to the world.

The Smile and Wave x House of Darwin collaboration will be available at 20 Knuckey Street, Darwin, and online.
