Senator Kerrynne Liddle says "there is much work to do" in her new role as Shadow Minister for Indigenous Australians.
The Arrernte senator for South Australia, who is also the Opposition spokesperson for Social Services, took on the key portfolio in the Coalition reshuffle announced Wednesday.
Senator Liddle said she would "take the fight up to Labor in the important portfolios of Social Services and Indigenous Australians, with their focus of service responses and outcomes for vulnerable Australians".
"Improving systems, processes and program delivery were key to my previous portfolios, which I will continue to prosecute with these new Shadow Cabinet portfolio responsibilities," she said.
The senator said "the need for accountability in the efficacy and performance of Commonwealth funding for Indigenous programs and services remains", as does her "focus on grant oversight and on frontline services who are at the coalface of change".
"I remain concerned about the safety of families and communities, especially those living with and needing support to flee family violence because the national epidemic continues with catastrophic and life-long consequences while the drivers and protective factors need more attention… There is much work to do to hold the Albanese government to account for its failure to keep Australians safe."
Senator Liddle added that another key focus for her Social Services role will be improving payment claim processing times and customer service wait times "that have declined under the Albanese government amid its increasing public servant numbers".
