Pat Rosser's strong all-round season has seen the Wiradjuri man named Player of the Year in New South Wales' Far North Coast competition.

The Cudgen Cricket Club allrounder was pivotal in the Hornets winning the LJ Hooker League after season-long contributions with both bat and ball.

Across 12 appearances for the Hornets Rosser took 39 wickets at a miserly 8.38 with his economical left arm orthodox spin.

His best bowling came in Cudgen's two-day fixture against the Murwillumbah Panthers where he took 6/47 from 18.2 overs.

Far North Coast LJ Hooker League president Phil Melville praised Rosser's performance throughout the 2024/25 season.

"He's had an illustrious career and he's a very special talent," Melville said, Ballina Times reports.

"There were games this year where he took control with his bowling and he also contributed with his run-scoring when they needed it.

"I don't think anyone else got close to him, he was an obvious winner when you look at how well Cudgen went this season."

In addition to his league-high haul with the ball, Rosser scored 178 runs at a respectable 35.6.

His club form lead into this year's National Indigenous Cricket Championships, where he ranked third in batting with 141 runs at an average of 70.5, leading New South Wales to the final before falling to Queensland.

Despite being in the twilight of his career, Rosser also represented the North Coast at the New South Wales Country Championships where he scored 78 runs and took four wickets across three outings.

Originally from Parkes, Rosser is also a zone selector with Melville highlighting his multi-sport talents.

"Pat would be one of the only people to captain NSW Country in cricket and rugby league," Melville said.

"He probably played the most cricket he has this season since he first moved here about 10 years ago.

"I think he really enjoys playing in higher calibre competition and against our better teams."

Cudgen's triumph was their first since the 2021/22 season.
