Late great singer-songwriter Archie Roach is among the nominees for the 2023 APRA Music Awards, with his soulful tune One Song.

The acclaimed Aboriginal musician who died in July 2022 is among five finalists for the peer-voted Song of the Year.

Other nominees for the industry accolade are Lydia Wears a Cross by Julia Jacklin, Say Nothing (featuring MAY-A) by Flume and Sarah Aarons, Daniel Johns and co-writers for I Feel Electric, and King Stingray songwriter Yirrŋa Gotjiringu Yunupingu for Lupa.

The awards are being held in Sydney on Thursday night with categories recognising heavyweights in pop, rock, country, R&B, hip hop, rap, soul, blues and roots, and dance.

King Stingray members are also up for Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year, alongside musicians including Sampa the Great and the members of Spacey Jane.

The Fremantle indie band is also vying for Most Performed Rock Work for their song Lunchtime.

Flume and Sarah Aarons, Vincent Goodyer and Rüfüs Du Sol are among those also nominated for two awards.

Clarity, a song written over Zoom by Vance Joy and Joel Little, is up for Most Performed Pop Work and Most Performed Australian Work.

Some of the 2023 gongs have already been handed out, with the Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music awarded to Colin Hay, and the late tour promoter Colleen Ironside earlier in April.

The awards will be hosted by Celia Pacquola with guest presenters Fred Leone and Henry Wagons.
