Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a girl missing from Sydney's east.

Mercedes Ingrey, aged 14, was last seen on Maroubra Road, Maroubra, about 9pm on Thursday.

When she could not be located or contacted, officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were notified and commenced inquiries into her whereabouts.

Police and her family have concerns for Mercedes' welfare given her age.

Mercedes is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, about 180cm tall, with a thin build, and long black hair.

She is known to frequent the La Perouse, Phillip Bay, Maroubra, and Glebe areas.

Members of the public with information into Mercedes' whereabouts are urged to contact Eastern Beaches Police Area Command or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
