Police have launched a homicide investigation following the fatal shooting of a young mother-of-three in Toowoomba.

Kara Jade Weribone, 27, was shot on Christmas Street in North Toowoomba around 1.50pm on Wednesday.

She was found critically injured on a footpath and taken to Toowoomba Hospital, where she later died.

Emergency services also treated two men at the scene—one in his 50s with a head injury and another in emotional distress.

The incident has prompted an outpouring of grief, with family and friends expressing their shock and sorrow.

"I'm trying so hard to keep it together but this is hurting me that you're really gone baby sis," one relative shared online.

"My heart is shattered," another wrote.

Ms Weribone's death follows the loss of her brother, Nicholas, who passed away three years ago.

In May 2022, he suffered a critical head injury following a reported assault.

Acting Detective Inspector Brian Collins confirmed inquiries into the incident continue, with three individuals linked to the victim taken into custody.

Investigators do not believe the shooting was related to domestic violence or drugs, with circumstances remaining unclear.

"It's devastating for someone to lose their life in such a way, and we're working to determine exactly what happened," Mr Collins said.

Despite the nature of the incident, police have assured the public there is no ongoing safety threat.

"This happened in broad daylight, near school pick-up time," Mr Collins noted.

"All available crews responded immediately."

Authorities are appealing for witnesses or members of the public with dashcam footage from the West Street and Christmas Street area between 1.30pm and 2pm to come forward.
