The following piece is a call to action from organisers of the Boorloo/Perth rally of January 26.

January 26 is a day of mourning where we remember the many who have resisted and suffered under the yoke of settler colonialism.

We remembered this year is the 200-year anniversary of the invasion and continued occupation of Albany, Menang Country in the South West of Noongar Country.

We ask that the Commonwealth Government of Australia enact their constitutional power to make laws and policies for First Nations People and implement all the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, UN Mandela rules, UN Rights of the Child, International Red Cross and UN Minnesota Guidelines on Investigating Deaths in Custody and Help Way Earlier Report on Child Justice.

We demand governments implement independent investigations into deaths in custody based on the International Red Cross Guidelines and the UN Minnesota Protocols for investigating deaths in custody.

We ask all Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody recommendations be implemented especially, Recommendation 150 PBS, Medicare, holistic healthcare, mental health and addiction treatment in all justice institutions. Recommendation 122 - all justice workers to have a duty of care.

End the ongoing lockdowns in all justice institutions, increase staffing, improve education and working conditions for staff, based on UN Mandela prison rules.

We need halfway houses and better support on release from child justice institutions and prisons.

We need bail houses. We have too many unsentenced prisoners who can't meet bail requirements.

We demand Housing Justice for our community. End Homelessness and the housing crisis. Shelter is a basic human right. End three-strike eviction in WA social housing. Increase support for homelessness services.

Our charities cannot meet demand, many feeling burnt out and people and children are living in cars and on the streets cold and hungry. To immediately address the homeless crisis - allow camping grounds and the use of the WA Bullsbrook Quarantine Centre, which has 1000 beds and is empty.

We demand all the recommendations in the Help Way Earlier report, especially recommendation 4, to establish a children's Act, based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and a Federal human rights Act based on international law.

Close Unit 18. We need smaller therapeutic centres on Country as recommended in Help way early report.

Independent investigations into police complaints and abuse of power.

Good culturally appropriates employment opportunities for First Nations people.

Increase support and healthcare for our Elders, stop cuts to Elder care and home support (ACAT).

We want comprehensive, trauma-informed mental health and addiction care.

Protect Noongar Country, biodiversity, forest regeneration, healthy soils, sustainable agriculture, native pastures, cockatoo feeding forests and mini forests for urban areas.

Truth Telling and education and record the stories of our Elders.

With grassroots Truth Telling and education with can empower the community and together fight for real change.

Thank you.
