The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music Office (NATSIMO) and SAE University College have announced two fully funded scholarships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander APRA AMCOS members.

The scholarships, valued at over $60,000, are for the Diploma of Audio Production in 2025.

One recipient will have the option to study at any SAE campus in Australia with $5,000 in study support. The other will receive a scholarship for the Byron Bay campus, including fully funded accommodation for two trimesters.

Yorta Yorta, Wurundjeri and South Sea Islander man and Senior Manager at NATSIMO, Nathaniel Andrew, said the scholarships offer Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music creators valuable training to develop technical skills, expand industry knowledge, and advance their careers.

"At NATSIMO, our mission is to not only empower artists, producers and creatives, but to also help develop true leaders within the Australian music community," he said.

"Amazing opportunities like this with SAE University College really help us to achieve that mission."

This marks the second year of the scholarship.

Amelia Thompson, a Gamilaroi composer and electronic artist, was awarded the first NATSIMO and SAE University College Production Scholarship in 2024.

Dr Luke McMillan, General Manager of SAE University College, said the partnership with NATSIMO aims to support Indigenous students entering creative industries.

"Together, we are proud to announce a second scholarship, further empowering NATSIMO's community by offering greater opportunities for education and growth," he said.

"This partnership reflects our shared commitment to nurturing creative talent and fostering inclusivity across Australia."

The 102827H Diploma of Audio Production offers hands-on experience with recording, mixing, live sound, and project management using industry-standard tools. Graduates gain technical, employability, and industry awareness skills.

Applications for the scholarships are open until 12:00AM (AEDT), Sunday 3 November 2024.
