Wakka Wakka and Bundjalung man Shane Hamilton has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL).

Mr Hamilton, currently Deputy Secretary of Aboriginal Affairs in the New South Wales Premier's Department, was appointed by the AHL Board for a five-year term following a merit-based selection process.

"I congratulate Mr Hamilton on his appointment as CEO of Aboriginal Hostels Limited," Minister for Indigenous Australians Malarndirri McCarthy said.

"I look forward to working with Mr Hamilton and AHL as it delivers culturally safe and affordable accommodation options for First Nations people across Australia."

Established in 1973, AHL operates a national network of accommodation facilities providing culturally safe and affordable housing for First Nations people who must live away from home to access services, education and economic opportunities.

Mr Hamilton is a former CEO of the Aboriginal Housing Office and previously spent four years in management consulting with PwC's Indigenous Consulting and Inside Policy.

He also brings experience across housing, corrections and professional services in government, non-government and corporate sectors and was the co-founder of First Nations Blockchain.

Last year, he was recognised with a Meritorious Award in the King's Birthday 2024 Honours List for his service to Aboriginal communities in NSW.
