The Western Australian government has opened Expressions of Interest to fill five positions on the state's Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Committee from July 2025.

Candidates with diverse expertise in Aboriginal culture, heritage and related fields are encouraged to apply.

Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Tony Buti said on Friday that the government invites passionate and experienced individuals to play "a pivotal role" by providing advice on Aboriginal cultural heritage across the state.

"This is an extraordinary opportunity for individuals to provide advice on Aboriginal cultural heritage in Western Australia," Dr Buti said.

"I encourage nominations from people with strong experience and a deep connection to heritage who are ready to make a meaningful impact in safeguarding these invaluable assets for generations to come."

The Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Committee provides guidance under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972, encouraging the management of Western Australia's rich Aboriginal heritage.

The 1972 Act was replaced by the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2021, which sparked a backlash from a range of groups, including many Traditional Owners. The new Act was repealed and an amended version of the 1972 law is now in effect.

The Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Committee needs fill five positions that will become vacant in July 2025.

The state government is looking for individuals with "strong experience in Aboriginal culture and heritage" to nominate for a place on the Committee.

Specialists with experience in anthropology, archaeology and engineering are particularly encouraged to apply, as are those with lived experience of Aboriginal culture and heritage.

More information is available online.

Expressions of Interest close Friday, 14 March 2025.
