A violent disturbance in the remote community of Yuendumu has seen two men denied bail.
Northern Territory police said they have received reports at around 1 am on Saturday of a large group of people fighting — some armed with weapons — as well as multiple vehicles on fire in the desert community, 300km north west of Mparntwe/Alice Springs.
"Local police attended, and the group was dispersed. Two vehicles were observed to be completely burnt and one severely damaged," a statement read.
No injuries were reported to police.
"A large group reformed a short time later, however, was dispersed again by police," NT Police said.
It is understood the unrest was sparked by the death of a person known to those involved, the court heard on Monday.
Nehemiah Watson, 19, and Ryan Woods, 36, were arrested and remanded before being charged with numerous offences, including arson, recklessly endangering serious harm, gathering in an unlawful assembly, being armed in public, and property damage.
Judge Jonathan Bortoli said Mr Woods' legal team's application for bail, which would see him live in the outback town of Yulara — 18 kilometres from Uluṟu - as he has cultural obligations to attend to, was denied, according to the ABC.
The judge noted the risk of offending and failing to appear in court for future dates was too great.
He is already on a suspended sentence and has a significant criminal history, the judge heard.
Mr Watson was also remanded and will appear via video-link on August 20.
