Northern Territory Police have charged a person in relation to the death of a 26-year-old man in Arnhem Land last week.

A 20-year-old male, named by the ABC as Justin Bukulatjpi, was arrested on Saturday morning, NT Police said, and charged with murder.

He will face Darwin Local Court today, charged with one count of murder following the death of a male in Milingimbi/Yurruwi on April 14.

Police last week said they had received "multiple reports of large-scale fighting occurring in the community", including some community members allegedly fighting with edged weapons.

Acting Commander Mark Grieve told reporters last week the 26-year-old was dead when they arrived, with "what appears to be at least one puncture-like injury to his back".

It came as part of a "build-up of tensions and ongoing unrest between family groups and community members over the preceding few weeks," he added.

The case will return to court next month.
