Badimia people and businesses are set to share in employment, training, contracting and financial benefits from the proposed Youanmi gold mine in Western Australia after a new Native Title mining agreement was reached with Rox Resources.

The agreement establishes a long-term benefits-sharing framework between Rox and the Badimia Barna people, as well as upfront payments and production-based royalties.

Cultural heritage protection and environmental consultation are also central to the deal, as Rox targets first gold in mid-2027 from the Youanmi mine site in the Murchison region, 480 kilometres north-east of Boorloo / Perth.

The agreement covers Rox's existing project tenure and future applications across the defined Youanmi project area, with the Badimia Barna providing consent for the grant and renewal of future tenements and approvals required for mining, exploration and broader project activities.

In return, the agreement was designed to ensure Badimia people participate in the economic opportunities generated by the mine, while maintaining an ongoing role in cultural heritage and environmental matters.

Badimia Traditional Owners said the agreement was significant for Rox's recognition of cultural heritage and its community focus.

"Badimia Traditional Owners thank Rox for their respectful approach throughout the negotiations," Badimia representatives said.

"In particular, the acknowledgement of the importance of cultural heritage by a mining company was refreshing.

"Their proactive support of Badimia artists and programs to engage young people are also very much appreciated."

The agreement extends beyond direct financial benefits, with its employment, training and contracting provisions providing a pathway for Badimia people and businesses to participate in the project's development and, potentially, its longer-term operations.

A broader community focus would begin with support for Badimia artists and programs engaging young people, with both parties hopeful the benefits would extend beyond the mine's immediate workforce and procurement requirements.

Rox Resources managing director and CEO Phillip Wilding said the agreement marked an important step in Youanmi's development.

"The signing is an important milestone for the Youanmi gold mine and reflects the positive relationship that has been developed between the Rox team and the Badimia people," he said.

"We thank the Badimia Barna Native Title Claim Applicant, Elders and community representatives for their constructive engagement throughout the negotiation process.

"We are committed to working collaboratively with the Badimia people to ensure cultural heritage is respected and that the benefits generated by Youanmi are shared through employment, training and business development initiatives."

Mr Wilding said the agreement provided a clear framework for cooperation and "meaningful opportunities" for local participation and economic benefits.

A project liaison committee will be established to support ongoing engagement between Rox and Badimia representatives, giving both parties a formal mechanism for consultation as the project progresses.

The agreement also includes cultural heritage management and awareness initiatives, environmental consultation and a financial benefits package, including upfront payment and production-based royalties.
