Albert Kelly's NRL career has taken a step closer to being revived, reportedly signing a one-year contract with Queensland Cup side Redcliffe.

It comes after stints with Cronulla, Gold Coast and English Super League clubs Hull Kinston Rovers and Hull FC before a return to Australia for two seasons with the Broncos.

News emerged Wednesday Kelly had penned the last-ditch deal with the incoming NRL franchise's reserves outfit after being released from Brisbane at the end of 2022.

The move north could see the 31-year-old re-enter the first-grade fold should he impress Dolphins' coach Wayne Bennett, with spots remaining available ahead of the club's inclusion at the top level.

The former Indigenous All Star started the 2022 season in the Broncos' starting 13 before a foot injury and indiscretions saw him overlooked for the remainder of the campaign.

Kelly has played 177 career games since his debut in 2010.

Polarising Kangaroos, State-of-Origin and Indigenous All Stars representative Blake Ferguson has also kept his footy flame burning, albeit in the local leagues, signing with Group 6 side Thirlmere Tahmoor an hour south-west of Sydney.

It's a return to the Macarthur for the Wiradjuri man, after previously running out for the club in recent years.

Ferguson played a key role in Sydney Roosters' 2018 premiership win and spent time with Parramatta before heading to Japanese Rugby.

Following his departure from the NEC Green Rockets for disciplinary reasons he plied his trade with English second-tier side Leigh, starring in their promotion-winning 2022 season.

Ferguson similarly exited English rugby league flagging his intent to be closer to home for family reasons.
