Northern Territory Police are continuing to investigate the death of a 27-year-old man on Galiwin'ku/ Elcho Island over the weekend.
Police confirmed on Tuesday that the 19-year-old male who was arrested on Saturday has been treated at Royal Darwin Hospital and since released from custody pending further investigations.
Investigations indicate there was an altercation between multiple individuals at around 12:30pm on Saturday, including the deceased man and the 19-year-old.
NT Police believe that during that altercation the 27-year-old suffered a critical injury and the 19-year-old man suffered a laceration to his wrist.
The police said a number of disturbances were reported after the death.
"Around 5:45pm on Saturday police received reports of a fire at a residence within the community with no injuries reported. A short time later a disturbance was reported within the community. An ambulance, driven by police, was allegedly damaged with rocks and other objects," a spokesperson said.
"Police were able to successfully convey the 19-year-old to the airstrip, where multiple people allegedly threw rocks at the aircraft before he was flown to Darwin."
Members from the Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Crime Command, Cultural Reform Command and general duties were deployed to the island on Sunday and have been assisting investigations along with providing support to the community.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the entire circumstances of the incident and the events that led up to it.
