The Country Liberal Party's Central Council has formally announced its opposition to the proposed Indigenous Voice to Parliament.
At a meeting of the Central Council in Lake Bennett on Saturday party members attacked the idea of a constitutionally enshrined Indigenous Voice to parliament, with some claiming it threatens to undermine democracy.
Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, the lone CLP senator in federal parliament, applauded her party's decision and said she was pleased the Central Council had "listened to the local party members who called for opposition to the Voice".
"The CLP has sent a clear message that it will fight for an Australia in which all Australians are equal and these motions reflect that," she said.
"Australians do not want racial division written indelibly in our Constitution. The Voice is divisive, it is a dangerous threat to our democracy and it is unfair. I am grateful to the members of the CLP who voted to oppose it."
More to come.
