The corflutes of Benson Saulo, placed in a Victorian Liberal MP's front yard, being scrawled with swastikas is the latest in a series of acts targeting the Indigenous Liberal candidate.

The poster for federal candidate for Macnamara, Benson Saulo, which was placed on the fence of Caulfield's David Southwick was scrawled with the words "Libs = Nazis" along with a swastika on Mr Saulo's forehead.

The Age reports that Mr Southwick, who is Jewish, stated he has filed a police report regarding the incident.

It follows a report from the Herald Sun on Thursday that Mr Saulo, Australia's first Indigenous Consul General to the United States, was targeted by white supremacists' campaigning.

Campaign billboards of his have been defaced with stickers saying "Australia for the White Man" as well as material encouraging people to join the National Socialist Network (the organisation takes its name from the German 'Nationalsozialismus' / Nazi).

A descendant of the Wemba Wemba and Gunditjmara people of Western Victoria, and from New Ireland Province in Papua New Guinea, Mr Saulo has also been on the end of abusive threats and messages the paper reported.

He has been labelled a "f***ing parasite" in one Facebook message by a constituent, whilst he also received an expletive message saying, "Hope to see you at your next event you scumbag c**t."

The former Managing Partner of First Australians Capital, a national Indigenous-led investment fund manager, was once a staffer for then-Greens leader Richard Di Natale and ran for Greens preselection. He is now running as a Liberal for the seat of Macnamara, currently held by Labor's Josh Burns.

Mr Saulo has been criticised by some Indigenous figures for his support for Israel but told the Herald Sun: "For someone to equate Zionism as a bad thing and use my identity as the anchor in that statement, it says there's a portion of the Aboriginal community that have a lack of understanding of our own history as a people."

National Indigenous Times has contacted Mr Saulo for comment.
