She might never be royal, but she's been lucky enough to receive a specially commissioned painting from Aboriginal artist Brandi Salmon.

New Zealand singer Lorde has been on the receiving end of a beautifully commissioned painting by Tubba-Gah Wiradjuri artist Brandi Salmon.

Based on Lorde's album Solar Power, Salmon put together a painting highlighting the deep, bright blues of the ocean and other naturistic elements.

The opportunity to paint the picture came to Salmon completely off the cuff from a friend who worked at Seed Mob (an Aboriginal Climate Action Group).

This friend messaged Salmon and said a company had approached them and wanted a painting for one of their donors.

A week later Salmon opened her inbox to see an email from Universal Music Australia.

"I was like this is spam, this isn't real," she said.

"And then I read it and was like 'we work for Lorde and we want to give her a painting and we think you'd be a good fit, we love your work'.

"And that's kind of how it came about and it was really interesting because my friend had no idea it was Lorde."

The team at Universal Australia asked Salmon for a painting which reflected Lorde's most recent album, Solar Power.

Listening to the album alongside her musician partner, Salmon set out to work.

"I connected what she was talking about with nature and growth to connection to Country,"

"Like as a blackfella, that would be my version of what she's talking about so I tried to do something in line with that.

"And I wrote a letter to her describing the painting and I talked about where I grew up and my connection to Country."

Salmon received word from Universal Music Australia on Wednesday letting her know Lorde loved the painting and "it meant a lot to her".
